CDN-NDG strengthens security around schools and increases investments allocated in the years to come

The administration of the Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce district is continuing its efforts to improve the safety of travel for students and all road users through a series of interventions around schools and in areas frequented by families. In 2026, several traffic calming measures have been implemented or improved in order to promote safer travel and reduce speed in school zones. The district is modernizing its speed displays near schools For the start of the school year, the district has deployed around twenty speed displays, half of which are located in school zones. This operation will continue to raise awareness among motorists about respecting speed limits in areas frequented by students. Two new displays were also installed near the Judith-Jasmin school. In order to improve the safety of vulnerable users, the district has also installed eight new central crossing markers indicating “30 km/h - Slow down in the school zone” around six schools. Other installations have also been carried out in certain areas of the borough, such as virtual projections at the intersections of Somerled and Kensington avenues. Concrete projections were added in an area heavily frequented by families, near Confederation Park and Saint-Luc secondary school, on Kensington Avenue, between Côte-Saint-Luc Road and Fielding Avenue. These interventions aim to increase the visibility of pedestrians at intersections, reduce the crossing distance and encourage motorists to slow down in areas where children, parents and residents of the area live together on a daily basis. Aware of the importance of acting in a structured and sustainable manner, the Ensemble Montréal administration plans to practically double the amounts devoted to its ten-year capital expenditure program (PDI) in 2027 and 2028 for the borough in order to accelerate the completion of projects to secure streets and school zones. This additional investment will make it possible to continue the deployment of traffic calming measures and improve interventions aimed at making active travel safer for children and families.
